Kiss the Sea from Your Balcony

If you have despaired of getting a sea-facing room on your holidays abroad, then look on further.

Just check into the Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort closer home, which has just opened 23 new rooms called Premier Chalet on Water.

You will be surrounded on all sides by water and be able to enjoy the view without so much as getting your feet wet, if that's what you want.

What's more, the chalets are one up over the humble kelong. These largely wooden structures are built on stilts which are grounded underwater.

Apart from the great natural view, there are all the comforts of a land-locked hotel inside the chalets.

From the balcony you can peer under the Andaman sea and spot jellyfish, sea urchins and colorful schools of fish.

In the distance, you can see local fishing boats going about the business of catching pomfret and prawn.

As night falls, the golden glow in the horizon means that fishermen are catching squid by the light of a lamp.

Squids are attracted to light, and thus it makes an easier haul for the fishermen.

The surrounding shores are fringed with rocks, which reveal their grey outlines during low tide.

The serenity of the resort and its surroundings are your perfect answer to stressful city life.

Built over 11 hectares of land, the resort has it own sandy beach backed by a rainforest.

To better appreciate the natural wonders of the region, sign up for a guided tour conducted by a naturalist. Keep your cameras loaded to capture the assorted wildlife like squirrels, dusky leaf monkeys, bas, brahminy kites and white-bellied sea angels.

For the adrenalin-addicted, there are sea sports such as jet skiing, canoeing and windsurfing. For the indulgent, there are many services available at the in-house spa.

Dine on a variety of cuisines at the resort's restaurant, serving Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Western meals.

There is shuttle service from the resort, if you want to head out to the nearby Kuah town and shop. Or better still; take a cable car up into the highlands where there are viewing platforms and a suspension bridge.

There is 24-hours security service where a uniformed guard is positioned strategically in a raised guardhouse that overlooks the water chalets.

Each of the chalets has 600 sq ft of space. A king size bed and a wide sofa means that each chalet can comfortably accommodate a couple and a child or two.

The cost of each water chalet is RM 2,000 ($880) per night.
